The Spencer Ivy App is now available for download via iTunes

We’ve created an app! So if you have an iPhone or iPad, it’s now even easier to access online information, connect with us, and even shop online with spencerivy.com when you’re on the move.

Why an app?

Access to the internet from a mobile device is projected to overtake the frequency of access from PCs over the next few years. This includes smartphones and tablet devices- we will be launching a version for the Android too.

Since the successful publication of our Electric Bike Buyer’s Guide last year, we wanted to make it even easier to distribute the free guide bundled with useful information for electric bike newbies, so in addition to the postal service and a PDF download, this app was the best way for us to achieve this.

It also makes it much easier to find your nearest dealer and book an ‘exhilarating bike’ test ride at your convenience.

What exactly is an app?

It just means we’ve taken some of the main features of the site and made them look good on the much smaller mobile screen.

The app offers the same shopping journey and product information as the main site. You can shop whilst sitting on the train or bus, or at any time when you’re away from your computer.  So next time you’ve picked up your iPhone or iPad, why not download the app? What does the app do?

With the app on your iOS device, you can:

• Find the nearest Spencer Ivy electric bicycle dealer via your phone’s GPS and get their contact details
• Have free and easy access to the Electric Bike Buyer’s Guide, with comments from industry experts including the Light Electric Vehicle Association
• Read reviews from the media and Spencer Ivy bicycle owners to help you decide on the right product for you
• Read the Spencer Ivy blog to keep up to date with news, events and competitions
• Watch informative and fun videos from our customers and team
• Browse a popular selection of products from the spencerivy.com catalogue, with links to the spencerivy.com website to buy bikes and accessories
• Book an electric bike test ride with any of the expert independent bike shops
• View and comment on photos through Flickr.
• Link to the Spencer Ivy Facebook Fan Page and Twitter account to get social with the team and community

Christmas opening hours: We will be closing on Friday 23rd December and reopening on the 3rd January at 10am.  Orders can still be placed over the Christmas period and will be dispatched when we return on the 3rd January for delivery on the 4th.

Being big fans of Mr Rob Penn, a renowned journalist and author who has cycled around the world traveling through over forty countries on five continents, we couldn’t have been more excited when we found out he wanted to test ride our Spencer Ivy electric bike.

Rob Penn: It's All About the Electric Bike

As well as writing several tomes, Rob also produced his own BBC documentary that followed his world-famous book “It’s All About the Bike: the Pursuit of Happiness on Two Wheels”.  The book entertainingly tells the history of the bicycle, its evolution, and leads to Rob’s journey around the greatest bike parts manufacturers in the world to build his perfect bike- two of which, we are proud to use ourselves -the UK’s very own saddle makers, Brooks, and tyres from Germany’s Continental.

Having left the bike with Rob to use in between his busy filming schedule, we asked him what he thought about our Spencer electric bike-

After taking the bike for a quick spin, here Eoghan and Anne give us their reaction on winning a top-of-the-range electric bike from Spencer Ivy.

A few months after receiving their prize, we followed up with the family to see how they’re finding the bike and here’s what they had to say:

“The bike’s been wonderful, thank you. It’s great for commuting and I love the way people can’t seem to believe the speed I travel at, compared to the amount of effort I have to expend. It’s wonderfully engineered and very handsome too.

The brakes are superb, it handles well and is very comfortable. The battery seems to last for weeks without a recharge. I’ve not been out on it at night, but looking out the window I can tell that the lights will be tested soon.

Since Peter has gone to University, I tend to have a monopoly on the Spencer Ivy, but Oisin is growing up fast, so my monopoly may not last long!”
